Weavers basically adjust the design to stitch over the image again filling in stitches on top of each other to give the design a more solid look. The disadvantage is the you will lose a little crispness or detail that you may have otherwise had because the letters or design have to be slightly thicker but the trade off is a more richer and eye popping design. Just request double shuttle on your woven clothing label order and we’ll be glad to adjust the design for you. There is no additional cost! Click on our new order form link and get started now.

It may sound like an unimportant decision but you have to take folding options seriously if you want your clothing label to convey the look and feel that you intended. Let’s look at the most common options.

Centerfolded or ‘looped’ – This fold works best if sewn into a seam. The label is double in length and then folded in half and sewn across the top. The advantages are that the label will lay flat and will not curl (which can happen if the label is not doubled) after multiple wash and wear cycles. The clothes label will also have another side (when flipped up) that you can put other information such as washing instructions or simply duplicate the logo so that the woven or printed

Clothing labels folding options

label can be reversed.

Straight cut or Side edge fold – This type of fold works best when sewing down on only 2 sides. You will get a nicely finished look when folding the label under on two sides. This type of fold is typically used when only your logo is being used because of the limited space.

Flat with edges fused – This type of woven label can be sewn anywhere. It is most commonly used when sewing down on all four edges. This finishing option is not intended to be inserted next to the skin because when sewing all four sides the corners can protrude out and irritate the wearer. Best used on the outside of the clothing garment or accessory but it’s a good choice if you want a label that can be used in different ways.

Metallic thread is an option we offer on our clothes labels. This alternative is best used in conjuction with our regular damask woven labels. The advantages of metallic threads is to add a little glitz or sparkle to your design or logo. A little bling. It can make an orginary design stand out and catch the customers eye. We can offer silver or gold. It’s best to use only as a highlight and not used on the entire label. These thread holds many of the same characteristics as real metal. Meaning, if the logo has a lot of metal accents then they can be scratchy if worn next to the skin. The last thing you want if for your customer to remove your label and have no way to remember how or where to buy more!

Another way to add a little shine to your clothes tag is to ask for a sateen logo with a damask background. Sateen has a shimmer to it and looks fantastic against the less reflective damask label. Sateen is available in many colors and there is no additional cost to add metallic or sateen to your clothing labels so don’t forget to ask.

Sateen accents on damask woven labels

Certainly there are many different options to consider when creating your line of clothing. Whether it was the need to improve on something already out there or a clever idea for something new and never seen before. Something inspired you to start it in the first place.

Here are three ways to make them tell their friends:

1. Choose quality material. It sounds obvious. If you want people to spend $40 on your t-shirt or $90 on your scarf then make sure it looks like it’s worth the money! The best way to do that is to get to know the material. Test it. Wash it. Dry it. Wear it. See if it holds up to your standards. If it doesn’t then you can be sure it won’t stand up to your customers standards either and you’ll be left with a one time sale instead of returning customers.

2. Be original. It’s normal to buy blank shirts and add embelleshments to improve them and make them unique. But something has to get the buyers attention from the hundreds of other styles out there. If you’re creating your clothing line from the ground up then you probably already have a spark that makes your design better or different from the competition. Keep it fresh.

3. Create a brand identity. Your garment isn’t the only way to establish who you are as a designer. It’s also about your brand identity. A brand identity includes all the secondary items that go along with your clothing. Items like woven clothing labels, care and content labels, custom hangtags, heat transfers and price tags deserve your equal attention. All these things become synonymous with your brand. The advantage is that when you change a design or add a new item, the clothing label and logo remain a constant and build brand loyalty. Your customers will have confidence in your items and know that they are all quality and can be trusted.

Many times we are faced with a problem in woven clothing labels when weaving colors on to a white or light colored background. It’s called a shadow. It’s caused by weaving a darker color behind a white or light background. I often compare it to wearing red underwear and white pants.

There are a few different ways to avoid a shadow on your woven garment label:

1. Ask us to do a continuous weave on your woven label if you have chosen a light colored background. A continous weave will make the background color run the full length of the label and will help with the appearance of the shadow. Using the sample analogy above: it would be like wearing red tights under your white pants. While the label will not be bright white, it will give the look of solid white because of the weaving technology.

2. Choose a darker color for the background. Sometime switching to a light cream color will be all that is needed to avoid a shadow.

3. Invert your colors. If your clothing label design is what with black letters/logo then consider switching it to a black background with white letters/logo.

Keep the information in mind when you are designing or preparing to order a woven label. We are always glad to assist you with any questions.

TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) clothing labels are a new way to show off your logo, care/content and size labels. This is the same type of material that is currently used for cellphone and smartpad cases. These labels are special because they are transparent, which will make them less intrusive to the consumer. They have a soft feel, are resistant to oil, grease and high temperatures. This makes them highly durable but comfortable next to skin.

Clear and durable TPU Clothing Labels

These clothing labels are perfect to use as the only logo label or to be used in addition to a woven label or other clothing tag. They are also a great substitute for a fabric printed label.

A lot of potential clients want to understand the difference between material types when considering a woven clothing or accessory label. The three main material options are satin, taffeta and damask.

There are three main differences between the above mentioned. Appearance, feel and thread count. Thread count refers to the number of threads woven in a square inch. So, on clothing labels, that translates into a difference in design. A high thread count means a more detailed, crisp image.

Satin Woven Label

Satin offers the shiniest look. We all picture satin ribbon or pajamas and know that they are pretty reflective to light. Satin woven labels are a bit sturdy. I don’t want to use the word stiff but they are more rigid than the other two types. Satin has a low thread count.

Taffeta offers a non-reflective look. A good example of taffeta would be something you’d find on a canvas backpack or similar items. It’s durable but very pliable and typically a cost saver if ordered in bulk. Taffeta offers a medium thread count.

Damask Woven Label

Damask offers a slightly reflective or shiny appearance. Damask labels are everywhere. They are most common in apparel because they are soft and pliable to the touch. Damask offers the highest thread count of the three types of clothing tags. That means they have the tightest weave and will offer the most detail for your design.

Consider the above and choose wisely. Woven clothing labels will always add to your clothing or accessory and make people take notice. Check out our sale on woven labels.
Taffeta Woven Label

There are quite a few decisions to make when considering a woven or printed clothing label and all are equally as important. One of the most common dilemmas is where the label will be sewn. For clothing, the most common place is in the back neckline. If you are considering sewing the garment label into that area then consider making your clothing label into a looped or centerfolded label. This option is the most common. The advantage to looping a label is that it creates a double ply label. Having a double ply label will result in a more professional look and feel.

A single ply label will tend to curl and roll up after multiple wash and dry cycles resulting in irritating the neck or skin of the consumer. Removing your label because it’s a nuisance is the last thing you want to happen. Using a looped label also gives you another side to include more information about your product! Clients may want to include care/content information, a website address or a company slogan. Adding additional information on the back is free and will only enhance the label.
