1) Organic growing is better on the environment. Eco-friendly harvesting and processing can help lower our carbon footprint.

2) It’s better on your skin. If you suffer from sensitive skin or skin allergies then having a natural fiber next to your skin is always a good idea.

3) The clothing labels are softer and more pliable. With the absence of dyes and starches, the material feels softer.

4) Your clothing can be certified as eco-friendly or totally organic. If your clothing made from natural or organic materials then with the addition of an organic clothing label you can have your items certified as organic.

Having an organic woven label or printed cloth label can be the small extra that makes your design hard to ignore.

A UPC-A barcode (Universal Product Code) is the most common barcode used in the U.S. It is also called a GTIN (Global Trade Item Number). A UPC-A is comprised of 12 digits. The digits represent the manufacturer and the item itself. The first few digits of a barcode are called the Block ID number or GS1 company prefix. They are sort of like a license plate on your car because they’re specific to your company and no one else’s. The rest of the digits (except the last digit) are for your item. The best advice is to start a spreadsheet with the numbers and what they equal. The last digit is called a check digit. It’s generated by a mathematical calculation based on the first 11 digits. It’s not something you can add. An actual barcode can be created once you have all 12 digits. That’s where we come in. We have the software and printers to generate barcoded tags and labels for your items.

For new or smaller clients wanting to create a custom hangtag and are not sure of how to incorporate a barcode, my advice is to create a tag that has your artwork on the front and then leave space on the back side for a barcode, retail price, style number, etc….

Once your goods are sold to a retailer they may require a barcode to be on the items.  We can then be able to print an additional sticker with the variable information and stick it on the back. It will allow you to order less of the hangtags without having to stock tags for every single item. For large manufacturers, the barcode and other variable data can be imprinted at the same time your custom tag is created.

We can also print other types of barcodes on clothing labels. QR (quick response) codes are becoming very popular and can be used effectively on our one color printed labels. Read more about them here. We can offer woven cloth labels with a barcode for apprearance only. A barcode is too sensitive to be woven and made to scan effectively.

It’s called double shuttle weaving.

Weavers basically adjust the design to stitch over the image again filling in stitches on top of each other to give the design a more solid look. The disadvantage is the you will lose a little crispness or detail that you may have otherwise had because the letters or design have to be slightly thicker but the trade off is a more richer and eye popping design. Centerfolded or ‘looped’ – This fold works best if sewn into a seam. The label is double in length and then folded in half and sewn across the top. The advantages are that the label will lay flat and will not curl (which can happen if the label is not doubled) after multiple wash and wear cycles. The clothes label will also have another side (when flipped up) that you can put other information such as washing instructions or simply duplicate the logo so that the woven or printed

Straight cut or Side edge fold – This type of fold works best when sewing down on only 2 sides. You will get a nicely finished look when folding the label under on two sides. This type of fold is typically used when only your logo is being used because of the limited space.

Flat with edges fused – This type of woven label can be sewn anywhere. It is most commonly used when sewing down on all four edges. This finishing option is not intended to be inserted next to the skin because when sewing all four sides the corners can protrude out and irritate the wearer. Best used on the outside of the clothing garment or accessory but it’s a good choice if you want a label that can be used in different ways.

Gold and Silver Metallic accents

Metallic thread is an option we offer on our clothes labels. This alternative is best used in conjuction with our regular damask woven labels. The advantages of metallic threads is to add a little glitz or sparkle to your design or logo. A little bling. It can make an orginary design stand out and catch the customers eye. We can offer silver or gold. It’s best to use only as a highlight and not used on the entire label. These thread holds many of the same characteristics as real metal. Meaning, if the logo has a lot of metal accents then they can be scratchy if worn next to the skin. The last thing you want if for your customer to remove your label and have no way to remember how or where to buy more!

Another way to add a little shine to your clothes tag is to ask for a sateen logo with a damask background. Sateen has a shimmer to it and looks fantastic against the less reflective damask label. Sateen is available in many colors and there is no additional cost to add metallic or sateen to your clothing labels so don’t forget to ask.
